What to do if a friend is suffering with their mental health
- Don’t ignore them. Look out for the signs, like anxiety or depression, tiredness, feeling down, snappier than usual, or just not themselves. Check in with them.
- Listen to them. Don’t offer advice, now isn’t the time to share your own experiences, theirs are unique to them, so let them talk. Let them know you are there and that you want to help.
- If you’re worried about saying the wrong thing, simply say ‘I’ve noticed you aren’t yourself, you seem a bit down at the moment’. Just showing you care will go a long way.
- Hold their hand and seek help together.
