How to survive rush hour in the city

If rush hour, both morning and evening, breaks you out in a cold sweat and induces the Sunday night fear, here are a couple of tips for surviving rush hour in the city:

Break with tradition.

Entertain yourself, no one else is going to.

  • Try standing on the wrong side of the escalator for 5 seconds.
  • Strike up a conversation with a stranger.
  • Smile at a stranger. A smile is contagious after all.

Cycle.

If you really can’t handle rush hour, find alternative means to get to work.

Can you cycle? It’s easier than you think. Plus it’s free (both in terms of commuting and free phys – no gym membership required) and you can bank the calories burned for a celebratory glass of wine that evening.
