It’s perfectly normal to feel anxious at times. We all do. However if your anxiety is a permanent fixture most days, as it is for 5% of the population, leaving you unable to relax, you might have generalised anxiety disorder (GAD).
Symptoms include:
- feeling restless or worried
- having trouble concentrating or sleeping
- dizziness or heart palpitations
If anxiety is affecting your daily life, you must seek professional medical help. You don’t have to live with it.
Getting help:
- Psychological therapies. Try cognitive behavioural therapy (available via the NHS).
- Medication. Antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs)
