If you’re quitting sugar for February, but you have a super sweet tooth, you’ll want to know what alternatives there are available.

1. Xylitol. Also known as birch sugar. Xylitol is a sugar alcohol and is widely used as a sugar substitute. It has 40% fewer calories than sugar and doesn’t cause your blood sugar levels to spike. Xylitol is a natural constituent of some vegetables and fruits, and is naturally occuring in our bodies themselves. Replace it like for like with ordinary sugar.
2. Honey. One of the oldest natural sweeteners in the world. As well as being anti-inflammatory, it is also a known antiseptic and for its antibacterial properties.
