Mindfulness: what is it and can it help?

Mindfulness is quite simply paying attention to what is happening in the present moment, without letting external thoughts distract you.

Psychologists have lauded the benefits to mental health of mindfulness, but have advised those to treat with caution any research that claims to curb the symptoms of depression and anxiety.

What mindfulness does is make you more attuned to your surroundings, to your thoughts and feelings and alert you when things aren’t quite as they should be.

Learning to be mindful takes practice and whilst it is beneficial to all aspects of life, experts recommend if you’re unwell currently to seek medical help before beginning.
