The hand-luggage essentials you need for your holiday

It’s summer which means if you’ve got a holiday booked the ‘what shall I pack question’ may pop into your head sooner than you think. While throwing your entire wardrobe into a suitcase may be easy, choosing what to pack in hand luggage if you’re going on a plane can be a nightmare. With airport regulations and a maximum bag size to comply with you may not have a clue, but here are some of the top hand-luggage essentials you need for your holiday.

Important documents

This one should go without saying but never pack any important documents you may need into your general luggage. It will only cause chaos and panic when you’re rifling through two weeks of clothes to find your boarding card at the check in desk and cutting down on stress will keep you in a relaxed holiday mood.

Extra clothes

We don’t mean a week’s worth of outfits but you should prepare for the worst case of scenario of your luggage getting lost or delayed and by keeping a couple of spare items folded in your hand luggage you know you could always last a day or two until everything gets sorted. If you’re going to a hot location pack a dress or shorts, a spare t-shirt and a bikini, and if you’re on your way to colder climes think warm wool and no matter where you’re going a few extra pairs of underwear is a key.

Phone charger and an adapter

Again, worst case scenario but you don’t want to be left stranded in another country with 5% charge and the only options of going off the grid or paying a small fortune for an overpriced one at your destinations airport.

Neck pillow

Even if you’re only going on a relatively short flight comfort is key, you will already be squished up with the world and his wife in cramped seats, the last thing you want is to start your vacation off with a bad neck! This is extra important is you will be sleeping on your flight to prevent your head bumping against the window when you nod off, or even worse landing on the shoulder of the person next to you!

Makeup remover or a refreshing spray

Check your airline’s guidelines for the amount of liquid you can pack in your hand-luggage, but flying can wreak havoc on your skin leaving it drained of moisture. If you don’t mind going bare-faced try taking your make-up off before a flight and slapping on a rich moisturiser, or if you prefer to fly with a full face, choosing a refreshing spray will wake you up and also give the makeup you’ve been travelling in for 10+ hours a boost.
