Unfit landlords are facing a crackdown
Many people find themselves falling victim to landlords who let out unsafe properties or inhabitable areas and struggle to find solutions or seek money back for what they have had to endure but soon such dodgy letters could find themselves punished more severely.
From this month on, people who live in over-crowded or unsafe accommodation could get increased legal protection as landlords letting out homes to 5 or more people must comply with set minimum room sizes. Those who do not comply with the rulings or offer basic safety standards like fire alarms and regular gas checks can be given fixed penalties of up to £30,000 or even face unlimited fines and prosecution.
