The crucial thing you need to do when you move in

Move-in day can be an exciting time for renters whether it’s university digs, sharing a house with friends or your first flat with a partner, but you shouldn’t let the happiness cloud your judgement and stop you from checking the inventory.

Make sure you go round room by room checking the inventory and documenting any issues or damage that haven’t been referenced on it. Make notes and take evidence so you have plenty of proof if the estate agents want to contest what you’ve said.

If you don’t you could find yourself held responsible for damage that was there when you moved in or missing items that you didn’t want to bother referencing on your first day. You could also find some of all of your deposit at risk when you move out so being thorough is absolutely worth it and could potentially save you money in the long-term.
